How to Set Up the Perfect Steering Wheel Position in Sim Racing

Getting your steering wheel position right might sound like a small detail – but it makes a big difference in comfort, control, and immersion. Here’s what to keep in mind when setting it up:

Height – Your wheel should feel natural. I personally like the top of the wheel to be around chin level. Some people like it lower, others higher – but if it feels awkward, it probably is.

Angle – This one’s important. Your rig should allow angle adjustment. If the wheel is completely flat and you’re sitting upright, your wrists will start to hate you. Aim for a slight angle toward you so your hands and wrists rest naturally.

If you’re in a more reclined, formula-style position, then a flatter angle makes more sense.

Distance – Quick test: fully extend your arms, but keep your shoulders back. Your wrists should fall naturally on top of the wheel. That’s your starting point. From there, adjust closer or further to find what feels best for longer sessions.

Remember, you should be able to race for hours without strain. If it doesn’t feel quite right – it probably isn’t.

We made a short video showing this exact tip in real life.
